Transport in London

Transport

London is a global city with exceptional transport links to Europe and beyond.

The city is served by five international airports, including Heathrow, the busiest in the world. All of London's airports are served by regular, efficient rail shuttles, and the journey from Heathrow to Paddington station takes just 15 minutes.

The Channel Tunnel Rail Link provides direct train services to Continental Europe, and new stations at King's Cross/St Pancras and Stratford International will serve the new high-speed CTRL line which will open early in 2007.

London became the first major city to introduce congestion charging, and the city has been at the forefront of innovative projects to tackle the challenges of modern urban transportation.

The Mayor of London has announced a £17bn investment programme in London's public transport system, a commitment that would have been kept regardless of the outcome of the London 2012 bid.
