Where is it?

The Royal Artillery Barracks is on the edge of Woolwich Common in south east London, close to World Heritage Site of Greenwich Park.

It is easy to get to by mainline train and bus and will be minutes from the new Woolwich Arsenal DLR station, which is due to open in 2009

History

The London port of Woolwich has a long military history and the construction of the current Royal Artillery Barracks buildings began in 1776.

Getting ready

Several temporary and relocatable Shooting ranges will be built at the existing venue, including temporary spectator grandstands at each Shooting range.

The tender for the design will go out in 2008 and for the construction in 2009. The ranges and grandstands will be built in time to host test events before the 2012 Games.

During the Games

The Royal Artillery Barracks will provide an appropriate backdrop for Shooting events for both Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012. Crowds of 7,500 will be able to enjoy the action.

After the Games

After the Games, the indoor 10m Shooting range will be taken down and relocated to provide Shooting facilities elsewhere in the UK.
