About Wimbledon

Wimbledon is the home of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club and the setting for the famous Wimbledon tennis tournament since 1877. It is the only remaining major grass-court Tennis venue in the world.

Where is it?

Wimbledon is in south west London, near Richmond Park and the World Heritage Site of Kew Gardens.

Wimbledon is easily reached by tube, tramlink and rail services to Wimbledon, South Wimbledon and Southfields stations. Trains from Waterloo in central London to Wimbledon take just 10 minutes.

Getting ready

Wimbledon is being updated, with improved stands and a retractable roof for Centre Court. The roof is due to be ready for the 2009 Wimbledon tournament.

During the Games

Wimbledon Tennis courts
Wimbledon will be used for the Tennis competition of the 2012 Games. Up to 30,000 people will be able to watch the players compete.

After the Games

Wimbledon will continue to host The Championships grand slam Tennis tournament each summer.
